Steampunk Assassin: Aila Nightwalker by Nonconformity777 Steampunk Assassin: Aila Nightwalker by Nonconformity777
Finally finished my costume for anime expo 2012. This took me a year off and on. I designed and hand made each part of it. I'll break it down by each piece of the costume in order of what was finished first.

The utitlity belt was made out of leather. It ties in the back to fit any person. It contains two pouches and a fan holster.

The dress portion was hand dyed and sewn by me. It is historically accurate to the victorian era. There is a bustle also in the back which I will show in another picture another day. This is the only thing I cannot replicate for a person who wants to purchase items from me.

All my items (with an exception to the dress) can be purchased upon request by sending me a note or messaging me on my etsy: [link]

Yeah, since I'm in NorCal now it would've been tough to pull off. Hopefully I'll be able to go next year, but it's either that or going to Fanime next year. Hope things are going well for you too!

You're very welcome :)! Did you have difficulty walking with the eye patch on or did you get used to it?

I didn't bump into many people if that's what you mean. I did have an issue with people wanting to take my picture, but they were to the left of me so I couldn't see them. Other then that, by the second day I was completely used to it :).

That's cool. Did you use a kind of glue to keep the patch in place?

Liquid latex. That stuff is amazing.

lol probably better than using glue for fake nails to attach fake sideburns lol. Where do you get that stuff?

Ouch, for that I would suggest spirit gum. You can get that at any costume castle or probably party city if they sell costumes. It's cheaper than liquid latex, but just make sure to buy the remover as well. It will be less painful to get off with spirit gum remover. If you use spirit gum or liquid latex, make sure to dab a bit of it on your forearm to make sure you are not allergic to it. If you're allergic to one, the other is usually safe. Hope that helps :)

The purple looks like it was Muslin or something close, right? And what brand dye do you use? I've never gotten anything to dye so evenly! Awesome job!

Yes, the purple and red is all muslin. I used rid liquid dye. For the shirt (which was 100% cotton) I used double the amount of dye and soaked it in a pot for an hour. It's a pain to rinse, but the color is amazing. For the skirt portion I used muslin, but dyed it in the washing machine with hot water. I would suggest using the lowest setting of water though to get a darker color plus using double the dye amount. For color mixing, use this guide: [link] Hope that helps! :)

I have worn the eyepatch of glory on 3 occasions and nervously let it out to someone. IT is a silly annoyance on game night - I will have to make sure someone snaps a phone pic next time. I did sport it for the majority of a BBQ until common sense and beverages consumed made it a good idea to take it off. I will have to see if it emerged on Facebook! :)
